John Winer, Producer and President, Candlewood Media Collective:

John is an independent video producer with over 25 years of experience in broadcasting, advertising and marketing. In 1992, he formed Eclipse Video, an award-winning video production company serving performing arts, travel, school, summer camp and corporate clients. Previously, he worked at Foote, Cone & Belding in Los Angeles and CBS Television Stations in New York City.

John holds a BA in Journalism from the University of Southern California and an MBA from New York University. He has taught video editing at New York University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Layla Sahli, Producer:

Layla is an experienced educator who has traveled and conducted research in 31 countries and has lived and worked on four continents. Her experience includes research on world cultures and religions at Nottingham University in the UK, development issues around population, agriculture and industrialization strategies for sub-Saharan Africa at the University of Accra in Ghana, Peace studies at the Hebrew University in Israel, Human Resource management at AMIDEAST in Israel's West Bank and language instruction and translation for the Ministry of Education in Japan. Layla has taught in New York City for four years.

Layla holds a BA in International Development and Asian Studies and an MBA in International Business from the University of Wisconsin, an MSE in Education from Brooklyn College and Certification in Cultural Management from NYU.

David Sotnik, Director and Camera:

David is President of Paradigm Productions in New York City, serving as videographer, editor and director of documentaries and corporate video productions. His clients include Chase Bank, American Express, Soros Foundation, the Government of Quebec and numerous television stations and networks. Previously as Production Manager for Hartley Foundation, David produced educational films and videos on global consciousness, world religions, holistic medicine, the empowerment of women, environmental issues and the preservation of indigenous cultures. His subjects included His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Deepak Chopra, Bernie Siegel, Apollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, former Assistant Secretary to the UN Robert Muller, Helena Norburg-Hodge and Paul Robeson Jr.

David holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Polytech Institute in Lviv, Ukraine and certification in Video Documentary Film Production from The New School. He is a member of the Blue Ribbon Panel for News and Documentary Emmy Awards and is a panel judge for the International Film and Video Awards (NY Film Festival).

Mark Pearlman, Board Member, Candlewood Media Collective:

Mark Pearlman is a private equity investor and media executive. Most recently, Mark created Transform, a development and management firm that launched Sinai Live (www.sinailive.com) and assists pro bono various spiritual leaders to maximize their community impact. Previously, Mark has served as Executive Vice President at Fox Television, where he helped develop and execute the launch of the Fox Cable News Channel. Prior to that, Mark held numerous management positions at CBS including Vice President, Business Development, and helped to build Metromedia Fiber Network, owned by John Kluge, where he held the position of Vice President, Market Strategy. Currently, Mark is the Chairman of the Children’s Museum of Manhattan and on the board of the Annenberg Foundation’s Arts Initiative in New York City.

Mark is a graduate of Brandeis University and holds an MBA from the Sloan School at Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Nan Halperin, Board Member, Candlewood Media Collective:

Nan Halperin is an Atlanta-based marketing and sales executive who has worked with many of the leading kids and family-related entertainment companies, including Sesame Street, Hanna-Barbera and Golden Books. In addition, Nan has a background in advertising and internet-based education. As Vice President of CNN News Service, Nan was an education specialist who focused on developing promotional and content sponsorships. She began her career as Marketing Director with Touche Ross in Los Angeles. At Children’s Television Network she was instrumental in a multi-year licensing agreement to produce and market Sesame Street videos, audios and books/tapes.

Nan holds an MBA from the University of California at Los Angeles.
